Updates: Hearing was held on 08.01.2014. Only 2 attendees (probably due to insufficient notice or unaware of the hearing at all).
Key message here: Check your mail box everyday where possible.
Arigato!

I only know about the DBKL hearing after checking into LowYat forum when Kochin inquired whether anyone would be going for the hearing the next day. But that was late evening on 8 Jan that I checked into the Forum. The hearing came and went without most of us except for 2 unit owners being aware of it
I am sure the two owners that attended the meeting are not aware that they are representing the whole of Covillea owners as we had not given any proxy to them.
My revised assessment is RM20,400, an additional RM6,000 from the previous assessment. Even the first assessment we were not given sufficient time to lodge a complaint as the letters came after the deadline.
Any owner/owners keen/willing to work with me to pursue this matter further with DBKL?
Time is of essence.
I make a plea here that any owner who has knowledge of things affecting the owners interest, please get into this forum so that we can all be aware.
Thank you.

All Covilleans,
Latest update from FMT News dated Jan 15, 2014.
Assessment rate hike: DBKL receives 166,000 protests.
(The KL City Hall will deliberate on whether to continue with new rate or otherwise after the March 31 deadline).
Here is the extracted article:
"KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 166,000 protests from property owners in the city were received over the proposed increase in assessment rate by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) so far, its mayor, Ahmad Phesal Talib said today.
He said some of the protests were sent by the same property owners.
“The period for objection is until March 31 and if there is still objection by then, DBKL will consider whether or not to extend the period further,” he told a media conference here today.
It had been reported that the assessment rate would be increased in accordance with the Local Government Act 1976. The rate has not been raised for 21 years.
The new increased rate was supposed to have been enforced last Jan 1, but was postponed due to objections by property owners.
Ahmad Phesal said a panel, comprising representatives from DBKL advisory board, surveyors, lawyers and private valuers, would scrutinise objections raised by property owners.
During the media conference, he also announced the appointment of Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz as the new DBKL Director-General, effective today, replacing Salleh Yusup, who retired.
Mohd Amin Nordin, 59, from Negeri Sembilan, was formerly DBKL Deputy Director-General (Socio-Economic Development), a post he held since 2011."
If you are affected by the assessment increase can you please indicate your interest openly in this forum or pm me so that we can all work together on this?
A Covillean is an owner whether you are Malaysian or choose to make Malaysia your home.
Thanks and kind regards.
